As a freshman, I remember taking advanced English (E-9CO) with Dr. Welch. He was so tough on me, and even embarrassed me at times. But, the skills he taught me remained a part of my arsenal through college and law school. When all others gave up on me, his words of encouragement pushed me to new levels. He continued to look after me throughout my high school years, and I can't thank him enough for that. Thank you!

Dr. Welch, I have tried for years to think of the words to express my gratitude to you for teaching me how to write, how to enjoy writing, and for being the first one to introduce me to the joy and satisfaction of completing a well written report. It is ironic that I began this message with a run-on sentence. Nevertheless, I sit here capable of knowing the difference between vague and precise language, appreciative of the subtleties that can be conveyed through the written word, because of a one-semester elective I took from you in my Senior year at Cranbrook. Thank you!

My favorite memories of Dr. Welch was of him helping us put together the monthly (in reality, more like bi-monthly) newspaper in some dark, dank basement on the Cranbrook campus. I've nurtured those early publishing days over the years and ended up working for newspapers after getting my MBA. Since then, I've branched into media technology research, but have returned to those publishing roots via my online Weblog. I'll forever be thankful to Dr. Welch for introducing me to the magic and power of words, especially when applied to publishing.

Dr. Welch, whose senior english elective "The Apocalyptic Other" had a major effect on the way I have subsequently approached studying literature and its integration with societal and philosophical concerns.

Jeff Welch and Herb Snitz always kept an eye on me, and even though during my first two years I didn't perform as well as I could, they always kept faith in me and my abilities. Their confidence proved invaluable.

Jeffrey Welch's senior English elective was the class which most prepared me for college.

Dr. Welch had the most influence on my growth. He made recommendations, and provided the necessary criticism and guidance needed for success.
