Mr. Palmer made doing well EASY. That's why I knew he was one of the best teachers I ever had.
I loved his exacting style, the daily quizzes and dissecting all those Greek and Roman horror stories (battles...blood...blech...); more interesting that even fourth year French.
Teachers like Palmer is what defined Cranbrook. He is a bright spot in my memories of my youth at CEC.

I remember a day before Thanksgiving when Mr. Palmer had to teach a 19-minute 3rd Year Latin class to a bunch of kids who wanted to get away on vacation. To ease the pain he brought in the opening text of "Winnie Ille Pu," a recent translation of "Winnie the Pooh" into Latin. Unfortunately, not one of our ever-so-hip 60's class had ever read the original! Nevertheless he had us work through those opening paragraphs, and a number of us picked up the book over the holiday to finish it on our own.

I loved Art Palmer. What a gentle man. He loved bad puns and would endlessly repeat them - one that came up during The Aeneid was "hieing himself hither". Art used that phrase for the rest of the year.

Art Palmer, a great influence, wonderful Latin teacher and adviser. He pointed me towards and got me into Amherst College.
