Elizabeth Bennett taught English at Kingswood for more than 30 years.
As an instructor, Bennett was known for her attention to detail—exemplified by her mantra, "be specific"—and her ability to bring out the best in her students.
In 1983, Kingswood alumnae Caroline Cross Chinlund ('58) and Annie Sanders Bohlin ('58) helped publish "Elizabeth Bennett: A Word Portrait," a book of memoirs written by Bennett's students.
"As a teacher Miss Bennett not only corrected meticulously but knew just the right, deft way to praise," said Kingswood alumna Kristine Gilmartin ('59) in a passage she contributed to the book.
In 1984, Chinlund and Bohlin established the Elizabeth Bennett Fund. The $1,000 grant is awarded each year to a faculty member who puts particular emphasis on writing and the teaching of writing.
