Louis Beer
Louis Beer, a native of Illinois and graduate of the University of Michigan, was hired to teach at Brookside Lower School by Headmistress Jessie Winter in 1947.

Beer had been working with the Lutheran church as an organist and choir director when Winter discovered him.

For the next 39 years, Beer enriched the lives of students who had the privilege of being in his classroom.

Louis Beer was a joy to know and one of the kindest people I ever met. As my fourth-grade teacher, he showed endless patience with our class. And when I say he showed endless patience with our class, what I really mean is that he showed endless patience with ME and the ridiculous questions and stories I would bring to his desk each day. He took me seriously, always listened and always seemed to care. And every year, whenever I saw him at reunions or the grocery store or wherever we happened to run into each other, he always remembered me and had a kind word to share. Simply put, he was a treasure of a man.
